Historic Fort

The Bekal Fort is located near the Bekal beach. It is among the most well preserved forts in Kerala. It is situated on a headland which extends for 35 acres and juts into the Arabian Sea.The fort has a commanding position on the beach. The Bekal fort is more than 300 years old and it has specifically designed openings for defence and protection and was a major fort of defence which was extensively used in ancient days.The Fort offers a good view of the beach.A spectacular view of the sunset can be had from the beach.A major tourist attraction nearby is the Naval Academy at Ezhimala, in Kannur near Bekal.
