As part of evolving new vistas in Responsible Tourism,Kerala Tourism has decided
to implement responsible tourism practices in four destinations in the state on a pilot basis.The decision was taken at the second RT seminar held in
Thiruvananthapuram in April.The 40-member Destination Management Coordination Committee has fixed the
destinations as Kovalam,Kumarakom,Thekkady and Wayanad.Awareness campaigns will be held to spread the message of responsible tourism.
Working group The meeting constituted three working groups from among the members of the RT Committee for formulating the action plan in the economic,environmental and socio-cultural sectors.They will be led by
Mr.KG Mohanlal, MD, KTDC, Mr.UVJose, Additional Directo, Planning and Projects, Kerala Tourism and Mr.T.P.Narayanankutty, Director, Ecotourism - for the respective sectors.
Action plan A cell comprising a
team leader, project assistant and a computer expert would be set up at the Tourism Directorate at the local level in all the four destinations.Destination
level coordination committees and local working groups will be set up after the meetings.The local resource survey in the four spots will be carried out by
the Kudumbasree members of the locality. |
